Woodworking

It’s a long held ambition to do some carpentry but I haven’t quite managed it yet. My Dad started his career as a wheelwright - he made beautiful things from wood for our home and garden. I now have my box for the theatre and frames for shutters but I don’t know how to fix them for the best. I make arrangements with my friend Yipp to help me. I love how this new direction has opened up conversations and notions of future collaborations. We discussed how the shutters should open and close. They are just a touch too wide to meet in the middle - they would if they were hinged but then the opening doesn’t look as attractive. They do the first bit to show me and then make sure I do the rest for myself. We are using a hand drill and makeshift tools - experimenting with screw types so that the shutters will swivel. I feel in my element - I want to collect my own toolkit again. I thought I had kept my Dad’s chisels but so much ended up going in my house sale - reducing a 3 bedroomed house and garden to a bedroom, I pick nsome up cheaply from an antiques place 3 doors down from home. Yipp offers me a box of wood scraps to look through - I see two pieces that look like they could top the theatre. What are these I ask? Yipp says there’s a story - I ask if I can record them. I love that love and generosity are woven in to this hive theatre.
